First Night Boston Celebration 2014Mayor Thomas M. Menino and the City of Boston are proud to continue this beloved tradition. All First Night outdoor events are free, and admission to indoor events requires the purchase of a First Night button.

The City of Boston originated the First Night concept -- an alcohol-free New Year's Eve celebration for the entire.

Boston's city-wide First Night party includes hundreds of different indoor and outdoor locations, performances, and a thousand musical, dance, theater and other artistic performers.

First Night is a day long Festival celebrating art and community in Boston. Perfect for Families of any age.

Family Event Highlights

Family Festival at Hynes Convention Center

For children attending First Night, Hynes Convention Center is the place to be. From 1-6 p.m., stroll around the room for everything from face painting to 3D printing to multiple shows from the Puppet Showplace Theater, and more. A new addition to the festival, “First Light,” features three rooms of interactive sound and light exhibits. For the crafty child, children can create their own hats or participate in eco-friendly crafts. With Maximum Velocity bike tricks and aerial acrobatics, even the most adventurous child will be satisfied at Hynes.

1:00 -6:00pm, Hynes Convention Center, 900 Boylston St., 617-954-2000

Scott Jameson Magic Show

Scott Jameson’s magic show is the perfect afternoon performance to keep your kids entertained through a day of celebrations. With comedy and enchantment, Jameson makes drawings come to life, pull umbrellas from thin air, and even picks lucky audience members to tap into telekinetic powers.

2:00 - 2:30pm, Hynes Convention Center Room 302, 900 Boylston St., 617-954-2000, scottjameson.com

The Skyriders

Acrobats, a Guinness World Record in hula-hooping, and snowboards. What do these things have in common? Nothing–except that they make up The Skyriders. These award-winning trampoline acrobats perform “neck-breaking” acts with skis, snowboards, and wakeboards.

3:00 - 3:15pm, Hynes Convention Center Hall D, 900 Boylston St., 617-954-2000, theskyriders.com

Boston Family Fireworks

Last but not least - early fireworks!! Kids that get tuckered out far before midnight don’t have to miss out on the New Year’s fireworks. Directly after the Bank of America procession, there will be a ten-minute firework performance on the Boston Common ballfield at the corner of Boylston and Charles Streets.

7:00 - 7:10pm, Boston Common, Corner of Boylston and Charles Streets

  • Design your own First Night! It’s impossible to see everything, so pick a few performances and plan back-up options, in case your first choice is full.

  • Admission to performances is first-come, first-served. Events begin at scheduled times and venues are cleared between performances. There is no reserved seating. Late admission is at the discretion of site management.

  • Roads are closed at the discretion of the Boston Police based on pedestrian traffic flow. Boylston Street, Dartmouth Street and Charles Street (between Boylston and Beacon Streets) are closed beginning at 4:00pm for the Grand Procession. Atlantic Avenue and adjoining streets will be closed later in the evening for the midnight fireworks.

First Night
FN is the most spectacular way to celebrate a new year coming. Artists and performers introduce children to the wonder and miracle of art in all its forms. The city is at its most special when artists enliven every corner and perform in unique venues and on the street. If you've never been to a FN, don't pass up the chance this year to experience the most wonderful afternoon and evening ever.
